How to film a selfie video

So you’ve been asked to film a selfie video. What now? Don’t worry. If you don’t use your phone’s camera often, we’ll walk you through it. If you do use it regularly, this will be easy.

Where is it being used?

There are 2 areas where we use these videos. The person who asked you to film a video should have told you where it’s being used.

For social media

Aim for 30 seconds

Not only are people’s attention spans short, but Instagram limits videos on their feed to 1 minute.

Hold phone vertically

When you’re recording your video, please hold your phone vertically

For in service

Stay within the time given

The person who requested you to film a video should have given you an approximate time limit.

Hold phone horizontal

When you’re recording your video, please hold your phone horizontally.

Submit your video

Once you’re finished, you can upload your file(s) to our Dropbox.

*By uploading your video, you are giving Hillcrest permission to use your video in service and on our online platforms

Helpful Tips

Here are a few tips to help make the video you record look great and work for what we need.

“What do I say?”

You should have received some talking points for the video from the person who asked you to do this (if they didn’t, just ask them to). If needed, we can write a script for you to go off of. Just make sure you go off memory and not the page while recording. Reading can come off as unnatural in a video.

“Where should I record it?”

The cameras they put in phones these days are very good quality. However, every camera needs light to see you. Things like standing near a window can help with this. More light = less grain.

“My video looks blurry/hazy”

Since we handle our phones with our hands and put them in pockets or purses, they can end up dirty with dust or smudge from the oils on our hands. Give the glass covering your camera a quick wipe to clean it off.
