In 2021 much of the facilities team time was spent adjusting to health restrictions that limited what could take place in the building. It was encouraging to see the number of bible studies and groups that were excited to start using the facility as restrictions eased.
Hillcrest has a history of allowing different community groups to use our facility for some of their events and this year was no different. Many community groups were also struggling to adjust to health restrictions and the larger capacity in our building did allow Hillcrest to be used safely by several different groups this year. Events like: Piano recitals, Condo AGM meetings, Special Olympics Basketball program, and city youth program to name a few examples.
Solar panels being installed was the largest change to the facility in the last year. The solar system was turned on Dec 2021 and it is producing electricity. The goal of this project is to lower the utility costs by consuming what we produce and selling the surplus electricity back to the City of Medicine Hat. I am happy to report that yes, it is producing like we expected and yes we are seeing a credit from the City on our utility bill. We are just coming into the high solar production months and are excited to see what the actual production numbers will be. Since solar production fluctuates depending on weather expect to see a yearly summary instead of monthly reports. Church leadership is getting monthly reports on the solar project while we evaluate that the installation is functioning correctly and producing as guaranteed.

The Hillcrest property and building are a substantial investment and a substantial part of how Hillcrest reaches out to our City. I am happy to report that even through a tough year the Hillcrest building is a better then when the year started. Thank you for supporting Hillcrest Church.

In addition to the weekly cleaning the Hillcrest Facilities team tried to use the months when the building was slow due to restrictions to get projects and maintenance done. Here are a couple project that might be of interest:
The gym normally is busy mornings and evenings every day of the week so having that time when the building was empty allowed us to fix more of the issues.
The step along the front of the stage in the Worship Centre was extended with concrete
New carpet was installed. Thank you to the volunteers that helped with the carpet removal
