What is it?
Baby Dedication brings home and church together to celebrate the gift of a new child and to acknowledge the shared privilege and responsibility to lead this child into a life with Jesus.
It is a public declaration by the parents or guardian of a child that they are committed to raising their child(ren) in a God-honouring home. Dedication is not a means of salvation, but a commitment on the part of parents to raising their child(ren) in a Christ-honouring way, providing an environment in which they can learn about God and the Bible, trusting God with their safe-keeping, and bringing them to that place where they will one day choose to follow Jesus on their own as the Lord and Saviour of their lives.
Hillcrest Church supports parents who are purposeful in showing their children the importance of a relationship with Jesus. As a church family, we want to walk with families each step of the way by:
offering support for parents
encouraging community and discipleship
providing environments where children can learn about God, His Word, and how to apply it their lives
creating opportunities to serve and grow together as families.
When is it?
Currently at Hillcrest, we are offering an opportunity during the service for parents to bring their babies to the front and have a public “group” prayer of dedication. This occurs in April and October. Alternatively, you can arrange for a private ceremony with Pastor Cindy, your friends and family, and choose the day and time that works for you.
Dedication can be done with children of any age.
What happens at this event?
A Dedication ceremony includes inviting extended family and friends and all those who desire to be an active part in the spiritual life of the child(ren). The pastor will talk about the significance of child dedication, with specific reference to each family involved. The pastor will then offer a prayer for the parents and family, and a prayer of dedication for the child. In private dedication ceremonies, others may be invited to share words of prayer, wisdom, or support at this time.
